Connexpedition 2020: Apply Today!

Applications are open now through January 24, 2020. Join a hundred other high school students for an opportunity of a lifetime.

Join a hundred other high school students for an opportunity of a lifetime as you work together to make English-learning fun and exciting for the children of Taiwan.

Connexpedition was initiated by Wisdom Culture and Education Organization in 2011. In the last decade, our program that started with two small volunteer teams of ten has now grown into a community of over 400 volunteers! This year we're excited to host another year of service trips to Taiwan and we hope you can join us on this incredible journey.

Next summer, we will offer service opportunities in New Taipei City and Yilan County. Participants will be assigned to one of eight different schools in these regions and teach classes of about 10-20 students in a two-week English summer camp. On weekends, our staff will plan exciting and unique itineraries for participants to experience the vibrant culture and lifestyle of Taiwan.

Applications are open now through January 24, 2020.

Visit connexpedition.com to get started. Feel free to share this information with any friends or family who may be interested. If you have any questions, email us at connexpedition@wceo.org or connect with us on social media. We look forward to seeing your application!

Check out this video mashup of every service team’s video from this past summer. Each team creates a video at the end of their service trip. Sometimes they create slideshows, sometimes they film music videos with dances, and sometimes they record messages to thank everyone who made their trip possible. The students always enjoy the videos and seeing the “fun side” of their volunteer teachers. Here are all of them cut together into one fun video!

Welcome home! Whether you were in Yilan County, Nantou County, or New Taipei City, congratulations on a successful summer with your students in Taiwan.

Welcome Home - Connexpedition 2019

To our Connexpedition 2019 members: Welcome home! Whether you were in Yilan County, Nantou County, or New Taipei City, congratulations on a successful summer with your students in Taiwan.

This summer was another to remember. In the eighth year of our program, we served our largest group of students - a total of 525 students in New Taipei City and Yilan plus another fifty at Vox Nativa Music School in Nantou. We had eight service teams this year comprised of one-hundred volunteers, including our first team of ten volunteers from Seattle, WA. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to your students, your team, and yourself. This program would not be possible without all of you.

Please do not forget to complete our post-trip procedures. All information about feedback surveys, backpack return, service hours, and the reunion in the October have already been emailed to members and parents.

Please enjoy the rest of your summer and see you in the fall! If you have any questions, email us at connexpedition@wceo.org!

Volunteer at WCEO Summer Camps

Camp counselor (TA) registration opens on Sunday, March 10th at 10am.

Volunteer at WCEO Summer Camps

Wisdom Culture and Education Organization (WCEO), the non-profit organization that hosts Connexpedition, also organizes annual Chinese folk arts summer camps in numerous San Francisco Bay Area cities. Children currently enrolled in grades K-6 are welcome to attend to be immersed in a week of traditional Chinese culture! Additionally, hundreds of high school students volunteer as camp counselors each year.

We welcome any students in grades 8 and up to apply to be a volunteer. Earn up to 60 hours and complete your high school’s service hour requirement in just one week. Space is extremely limited and volunteer roles are given on a first-come, first-served basis. This year, there are camps in Fremont, Cupertino, San Jose, Palo Alto, San Mateo, Saratoga, and San Ramon.

Camp counselor (TA) registration opens this Sunday, March 10th at 10am. Learn more and apply at www.wceoprogram.org.

Thank You For Applying

Thank you for applying! Read more for a few updates regarding the decision-making and review process.

Thank you for applying

The team at Wisdom Culture and Education Organization would like to extend to you our greatest appreciation and gratitude for your interest in our Connexpedition program. As we mentioned to our SF Bay Area applicants, we have extremely limited space on our service trips, and we also have an extremely large pool of bright and talented applicants. As much as we would love to allow everyone the opportunity to travel to Taiwan with us, there simply just isn’t enough space.

With that said, decisions will be sent via email during the week of February 18th. We will be accepting a greater number of participants than we require as we do every year. We do this for two reasons:

  1. Some members voluntarily drop from the program due to other summer commitments. We accept more applicants than we need to fill this gap.

  2. We continue to evaluate participants during our training period to identify low performance indicators not present during the application process. The schools in Taiwan expect these young high school students to be English teachers, a leader in the classroom, not a simple classroom assistant. Unfortunately, participants who are deemed unfit for service in this role will be cut from the program.

Please note that not everyone will be placed in their first service location choice and not all returning applicants will be offered a position due to space limitations. With the exception of Vox Nativa participants, we will inform you of your team assignments/service locations no sooner than the third training in April. In other words, applicants who applied to NTPC, Fengzhu, or Lanyu will first be conditionally accepted as members of the Connexpedition program. Then, based on observations and evaluations made by our staff members during trainings, we will then assign participants to specific schools and service locations in April.

As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at connexpedition@wceo.org.
